CHARACTER APPLICATION PROCESSThis is how our character application process will work:
You will PM (private message) your application to one of the
admins . They will then review your application and tell you if they approve of it. To be clear, what really needs to be approved is the Nen ability. That is the only thing what we, the admin, will be reviewing. Unless there is something inappropriate about your character, we will not ask you to change anything about your character that is not Nen related. (See rules for more information or make inappropriate a link to the rules.)
Once approved, we will send you a message stating that you can post your character in the approved applications topic. The admin that approved you will then post after you to give proof that they approved you so that there are no mishaps.
Here is a character sheet below. Character application doesn’t need to be in this exact format as long as you have all of the things listed in the character sheet the format does not matter. The basic character sheet is just to give you an idea of what you need to have; you can go by it or use in as a reference.

Nen ability:
REGARDING NEN:Everyone can use some or a lot of Aura, you can use it to boost your attributes or defend against attacks, but Nen is your Ace in the hole in a fight. Nen is personal to every Character, some Nen can be similar to others but where they differ will be in how the character uses their Nen. You can do almost anything with your Nen as long as it doesn’t infringe on some of the rules. Since Nen has so many possibilities, you might end up unsure if something is possible; especially if you do not know a lot about the Hunter x Hunter universe. If you have any questions regarding Nen or these rules just send a message to any of the Admin or post them in the questions and suggestions section. Important thing to keep in mind while creating your Nen is that the specialization Nen category is very rare and so we will not approve a large number of characters with specialization. Also, as we are not assigning Nen types to users please try make characters that don’t lean heavily towards one type of Nen or we will have to start assigning and we do not want to do that as it takes away a lot of creative liberty. Example: All of the users have decided on creating characters in the same category. The site would consist of like 9 enhancers and 1 conjurer.
We would like to encourage you all to not create that heavily dominating ratio. There are six Nen categories and so, you all do not have to be one type. Please diversify yourselves.
Important tip: When creating your Nen abilities also pick how your character was able to use Nen, either learning the natural slow way or through the initiation known as “baptism” where they are exposed to Nen, which can be very harshly done.
Super Mega important: In Nen creating there must be at least 2-3 conditions on your Nen. Depending on how strong your Nen or Nen abilities are, there will need to be more conditions added. Limitations are not mandatory. (scroll down for the vows and limitations section)
There are 6 types of Nen.The Nen Types are: Enhancer, Transmuter, Conjurer, Emitter, Manipulator, Specialist (more on each type below).
Enhancer: Enhancement is the ability to use aura to increase the natural abilities of an object or one's own body. Enhancement is the most balanced of the 6 categories, it allows users to spread themselves evenly between offense and defense and become very strong.
Transmuter: An affinity for Transmutation means a person can change the properties of their aura to mimic something else. Transmuters can also give their aura properties that don't necessarily mimic real things or have the qualities of more than one thing. Example: Hisoka's "Bungee Gum" copies and combines the properties of rubber and gum. Important thing with transmutation is that it only mimics you are not summoning anything, that is conjuration.
Conjurer: Conjuration is the ability to create a physical material object out of one's aura. Conjuration is the only Nen ability that can be seen and touched by people who can’t use Nen, as most Nen is invisible to non-users. Objects created by this technique have a subtle "independence" to them. Which means that they can continue to exist even when at a considerable distance from the Conjurer, or even if the Conjurer themselves are not aware that they have yet de-materialize their Nen.
Emitter: An affinity for Emission means that a user is capable of controlling a deployment of their aura separate from their body. Aura usually decreases in intensity when it is separated from the source body, but strong Emitters can separate their aura from their body for long-periods of time and still be able to maintain it. Objects created by Emitters are created solely from aura, invisible to those whom haven't learned Nen, and require a little Manipulation skills to control.
Manipulator: Manipulator abilities allow the user to control living or non-living things in a certain way. (Advantage being able to manipulate enemies). The degree of control is principally determined by a condition that usually puts the manipulator at risk example: attaching objects on the enemy, touching the enemy in a certain way. (These are larger risks that can better the degree of control called conditions that will be elaborated on later.)
Specialist: Specialization is anything that doesn't belong into the other five categories. It is possible to become a Specialist later, but it is more likely for Manipulators or Conjurers.
Vows/Conditions & limitations:Being a product of the mind, Nen responds to the goals, strengths and desires of individual users. A persona can increase their overall power by stating a self-imposed restriction. Example: If your restriction is I can only use Nen on men and you abide by that restriction, that skill will become stronger. That way to strengthen your power is known as a vow. The other way is through a Limitation which can coincide with a vow. Limitations act as a penalty to go along with a vow. Vows that contain a punishment will strengthen the ability ever more so. Vows can act as a double edged sword, it can strengthen your ability or it can hinder you, depending on certain circumstances and you can damage your ability if you break your vow sometimes permanently. An example of limitation with vow: Nen can only be used on men. Death will result in the breaking of the vow.
Nen typing:The way to know your Nen ability is through water divination. Divination requires one to float a leaf atop of a glass of water. A student of Nen will place their hands around the glass and perform Ren. The resulting effect from one's aura communicating the glass will determine a person's aura type
- If the volume of the water changes, the user us an Enhancer.
- If the taste of the water changes, the user us a Transmuter.
- If impurities appear in the water, the user us a Conjurer.
- If the color of the water changes, the user us an Emitter.
- I f the leaf moves on the water’s surface, the user is a Manipulator.
- If a completely different or unusual change appears, the user is a Specialist.
In this site you pick your Nen type, we will not be assigning them for you with a dice roll or anything like that. However, if proper vows/conditions and/or limitations are not to this forum's standard, the admin will reject the initial application and kindly request that you revise or add more conditions to your nen.
I can explain a way to help you determine a Nen type for your character which I will do so below.
A way to determine your Nen is going by the Hisoka’s personality test mentioned in the manga and anime. He explains that it isn’t entirely accurate so this doesn’t apply completely to a personality type. Also, part is copied from the Hunterpedia page; I do not take credit for this part below. Hunterpedia is a place you can look up a lot more about Nen or anything else from the Hunter x Hunter world.
Enhancers are determined and simple. Most of them never lie, hide nothing, and are very straightforward in their actions or in their thinking. Their words and actions are often dominated by their feelings. They are generally very selfish and focused on their goals.
Transmuters are whimsical and prone to deceit. Transmutation users have unique attitudes, and many are regarded as weirdos or tricksters. Often they put forth a facade while hiding the truer aspects of their personalities. Even when they don't hide their personalities they rarely reveal their true intentions.
Conjurers are typically high-strung or overly serious and stoic. They are often on guard as to be cautious. They are very observant and logical, rarely falling into traps.
Emitters are impatient, not detail-oriented, and quick to react in a volatile manner. Many of them are quick-tempered and hot-blooded. They resemble the Enhancers in building their impulsivity, but the difference with them, they probably tend to calm down and forget easier.
Manipulators are logical people who advance at their own pace. They are all for arguments and tend to want to keep their families and loved ones safe. On the other hand, when it comes to pursuing their own goals, they do not listen to what others might have to say about it.
Specialists are individualistic and charismatic. They will tell you anything important on them, and refrain from being close friends. But, because of their natural charisma that draws others, they are always surrounded by many people.
Still not sure which fits your character? Well
here is a quiz that uses Hisoka’s method of determining a person’s Nen. All you have to do is answer the questions like your character and voila out pops your Nen type.
